What does the term "stoked" mean?

In the days of coal fired furnaces and steam locomotives, the homeowner or fireman would stoke the coals to get the best heat out of them. This in turn would cause steam pressure to be at a maximum - everything is ready to go. Since then, the term has come to mean eager, ready to go, excited, can't wait and all primed up.
